Coming Along Slowly

This week I had planned to start quilting, but that didn't happen.  I caught a cold and it had other plans for me.  Lots of naps after work and going to bed early.  I even skipped my weight class on Wednesday, so you know I wasn't feeling well.

I did make time to print the pictures on pretreated fabric.  As well as, ironing them onto the fabric I used for their borders.

After surfing the web for a couple of hours, I was able to find a quote that related well to the adventure of our friends buying a farm and planting a vineyard.

"Wine is an art and a science at the same time.  That’s why there’s a mystique about it and why a little grape can hold so much adventure for our family. "  -Bill Wilson

Picture Layout

I spent a long weekend in Florida visiting my Uncle.  Lucky me was enjoying the sun and warm temperatures, while my husband was back at home suffering with the cold temperatures and snow last Monday.

He sent me pictures of snow.

I sent him pictures of sunny blue skies and palm trees.

Needless to say, having fun in the sun in Florida, I did not have much time to spend on the wall-hanging.

I think I am going with Design 3.  I plan to put a quote in the white square to the left of the wine glass.

Here are some more pictures from our trip down the Rhine.

Another Milestone Birthday to Celebrate

Another milestone, another wall-hanging to celebrate the occasion.  We have a friend who not only is quickly approaching a major milestone but he is also seeing a dream fulfilled.  He bought a farm last year and planted a vineyard.  The wall-hanging I have in mind is one that will commemorate both occasions.  First, I thought about using one of the many pictures I have taken of the farm and making a "photo inspired" wall-hanging of it, but I couldn't decide on which one to choose.  Then I decided why decide on just one photo when I could make a "scrap book" wall hanging.

Which design do I choose?

Choices, choices, choices

I wanted to incorporate the wine glass design that appears on their label.

Here is my decision for the background design.

I pieced the wine glass.  I decided to use a very subtle change in tone for the two pieces of material used for the wine.  It will hang on my design board for a couple of days while I ponder which pictures will be chosen and the overall design for placing the pictures.  I am also thinking about putting a quote in the bottom left hand corner.

Since this wall-hanging has a wine theme, the only logical thing to do was to share pictures from our trip to Europe last summer.  We took a day long cruise down the Rhine.

We saw acres and acres of vineyards.

The scenery was breathe taking with the castles situated among the vineyards.

Happy Big 50

Time flies by.  Youth is wasted on the young.  No matter how you look at we all are getting older and there no holding it back.  We can either embrace it or crawl up in a ball and hide in a corner.  I choose to have fun with it and celebrate with wall-hangings.

I quilted this wall-hanging using the stippling stitch.
All I need to do now is box it and send it to my brother.

I can't explain the feeling I get when I look at these pictures from our trip two years ago.  It was a marvelous adventure out west.  These are scenes taken from the road in North Dakota. Can you imagine driving a covered wagon through this landscape?

Splendid Memories

Our 5500 mile road trip, two summers ago, is all but a distant memory.  But, oh, what beautiful memories and fun we had traveling even when it  felt endless miles before our next stop.  This wall-hanging I made for my mother of the moose she took at the entrance of the Grand Tetons National Park  will help to keeps those memories alive and put a smile on our faces.

I tried to use stitching to show the ripples in the lake.

I attempted thread painting for the stems and leaves in the water.

The mountains were only outlined with stitching.  The sky was quilted using the outline of the mountains.
