Lovin' the Sun

I love the weather we have had this past week; mid seventies and low humidity.  Only such weather makes it difficult to stay inside and sew.  I finally finished the wall-hanging and I have a couple of "non-quilting" projects to work on this week for friends.

I decided to add on one of the baby's pacifiers to the wall-hanging which meant going to Joanne's to find some other items to compliment it and keep the design flowing.  I really do enjoy displaying my photos this way as opposed to putting them in picture frames.  The larger picture is that of my granddaughter and the smaller ones are those of my son and daughter in-law.

Here are some photos of Brighton Dam when the azaleas were in bloom.

Happy Memorial Day

Here’s hoping you had a Happy Memorial Day.   I hope you had a good day remembering our veterans along with celebrating being together with friends and family,

After days of indecision and a slight change in the layout of the wall-hanging.  Quilting was begun  and shouldn't take long to complete.

I was asked to make centerpieces for a bridal shower.  The happy couple had just bought a new home.  So instead of using cut flowers, I decided to use live flowers they could plant in one of their many gardens.

One of those weeks

Rain, rain go away, Johnny wants to play.  At least, it is not snow.  I called my Aunt who lives in Oklahoma to see if they got any of the rain and unfortunately, the answer was no.  The rain and tornadoes were to the east of where she lives.  We have a rain gauge outside, and it registered well over seven inches of rain  for Tuesday and Wednesday combined.

Why is it when you are pinched for time, nothing seems to go right?  I tried a different prepared fabric for printing and my printer did not like it at all.  Apparently, that brand needs a printer that rolls it's paper through and not a pinch and grab feeder.  Then I printed on the brand I usually use, trimmed them, ironed on wonder under and ironed them on the fabric.  Only to notice that I printed the wrong birthday on one picture.  After further examination, I noticed the color came through and changed the skin tones.  So I printed the pictures again, this time I ironed  them onto white fabric and then I ironed them onto the colored fabric.  Unfortunately, this is all I had the time this week to accomplish.

More pictures from Oklahoma:

I really like this picture of a stove with plants, my Uncle is very creative with his plants.

Yet, Another Milestone to Celebrate

There is no greater pleasure than giving someone a wall hanging, who appreciates the hard work and time that went in to making it.  Yesterday, I gave our friend his Happy Big 60! wall hanging and he really was ecstatic over his gift.  The wine glass is a replica of the one on his label and the pictures are of the farm.

My granddaughter is celebrating her first birthday in May.  The theme of the birthday party is Look Whooo's One. Have you guessed? Owls. This grandmother has been charged with making the birthday dress.

In addition, I want to make a "scrapbook" wall hanging with newborn pictures of her and her parents.

I like to plan my wall hangings using black and white pictures.  I have much to do in the next couple of weeks.

Here are some pictures from our trip to Oklahoma.

They are in desperate need for rain.  The lakes are drying up and the vegetation is dying and turning brown.

Go West

I have spent the last week on the road to Oklahoma and back.  We drove out to see my Aunt.  I always get rejuvenated when we travel out there.  The changing landscape along with the sights and sounds are so different than back home.

And, best of all, my Aunt is an artist!  I just love sitting on her back porch and soaking in the creativity.

Happy Big 60!

There is something positive to having a simple cold with a scratchy throat turn into something more that needed an antibiotic to knock it out of my system.  Staying home from work, between taking naps and hand stitching the binding, I was able to finish the wall-hanging on Wednesday.

It was fascinating to watch the  unison of man and machine to plant the grape vines.

Quilted, Finally

This week, I was able to carve some time out of my busy week and quilt my wall-hanging.   With the coming of spring, my schedule seems to have become more and more busy.  My Saturday morning now starts at 7:30 AM setting out in the car with my mother to comb the area for yard sales and the treasures they may hold.  Our annual trip to Oklahoma is quickly approaching.  Mom and I will take off soon in her SUV for the open road to discover new sights and revisit familiar ones.  Why do we drive and not fly?  I will share pictures from our trip of what we would miss, if we choose to fly.  My husband hates the long drive, so he elects to stay home (I think he enjoys the peace and quiet).

Quilted and really for binding

Close up of the leaves and grapes

Here are some pictures of our friends farm and the very beginning of their vineyard.

The field has been fenced in, plowed, and ready for the grape vines.  The fence is to keep the deer from feeding on the plants.

They hope to rebuild the barn and turn it into an events' venue.
